Marcus Rashford Eyes Barcelona Move Amid Uncertain Manchester United Future
Marcus Rashford has gone public with his desire to join Barcelona and play alongside teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, as the Manchester United forward seeks a fresh start away from Old Trafford. The 27-year-old, who spent the latter half of the 2024–25 season on loan at Aston Villa, appears unlikely to have a future at United under new manager Ruben Amorim, following a reported falling out.
Rashford, who has long admired Barcelona, made his feelings known during a recent interview with Spanish influencer Javi Ruiz in Marbella. When asked if he would like to play alongside Lamine Yamal, Rashford did not hesitate. “Of course I’d love to. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we’ll see,” he said. The statement comes as the England international makes a concerted effort to attract attention from the Catalan giants, even as they seem to be prioritizing other targets.
In fact, Barcelona have recently intensified efforts to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, a move that may complicate Rashford’s ambitions. The club has reportedly agreed personal terms with Williams, and new head coach Hansi Flick is eager to secure the highly rated 21-year-old. As it stands, Rashford may have to wait or look elsewhere if Barcelona finalizes the deal with Williams in the coming weeks.
Nonetheless, Rashford’s interest in a move to Spain remains strong. “Spain is nice, and it’s not too far from home,” Rashford told Ruiz. “If I train here for an extended period, it’s great because my family can come visit for a few days — it’s just a three-hour flight. The weather’s good here too.” These comments reinforce the player’s growing preference for a life in La Liga, far removed from his recent struggles in the Premier League.
Talks between Rashford’s representatives and Barcelona have already taken place. Last month, his brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, met with Barça sporting director Deco at a hotel in the Spanish city to discuss the potential transfer. Deco later confirmed that Rashford is on the club’s radar, along with Liverpool’s Luis Díaz. However, financial limitations and squad priorities may restrict Barcelona’s ability to act swiftly.
Manchester United are open to letting Rashford go and have set a £40 million asking price. The club is also eager to remove his £315,000-per-week wages from the books as part of a broader squad overhaul. Rashford has three years remaining on his current deal, but a deteriorating relationship with Amorim and a perceived lack of future playing time have made his departure increasingly likely.
Sources close to United suggest that the club does not view Rashford as a central figure in their plans moving forward. Amorim is expected to introduce a more disciplined, pressing style of play — a system that may not complement Rashford’s attributes. With pre-season training on the horizon, United and Rashford appear to be on the same page regarding a mutual parting of ways.
If a deal with Barcelona fails to materialize, Rashford may have to consider other Spanish or European clubs willing to accommodate his salary and ambitions. While Rashford’s dream of donning the Blaugrana shirt and playing alongside talents like Lamine Yamal remains alive, the coming weeks will determine whether that dream becomes a reality — or remains just out of reach.
