Everton Football Club have confirmed another major departure as part of ongoing changes to their backroom staff this summer. The club is currently undergoing a significant restructure behind the scenes, aiming to set a new direction ahead of a crucial transfer window and the move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, now officially named the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

On Friday, 23 May, Everton announced via their official website that Gareth Prosser, the club’s Academy Director, will be leaving in June to pursue a new opportunity abroad. Prosser has played an important role at the club since joining in September 2022, bringing with him years of experience in youth development and football academy management.

Before arriving at Everton, Prosser was the General Manager at the Professional Game Academy Audit Company, where he helped shape the standards of football academies across the country. Prior to that, he spent over a decade as Academy Manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he was responsible for overseeing the growth and progress of several young talents. He also worked as a Lead Coach for the Premier League, delivering coaching programmes in countries such as China, India, and across Africa.

His departure comes shortly after Kevin Thelwell, the club’s former Director of Football, also left the Toffees to take on a similar position at Scottish club Rangers. In his place, Angus Kinnear has joined Everton from Leeds United and will be taking over as Chief Executive Officer.

These changes mark a clear shift in direction for Everton, who are looking to modernise and strengthen their football operations behind the scenes. With Prosser stepping down, the club will now begin the search for a new Academy Director—a vital position within the club’s long-term strategy.

The role of Academy Director is critical to Everton’s future. It involves not just managing coaching staff and player development, but also ensuring the academy continues to produce top-quality talent for the first team and generate income through player sales. Everton have a proud tradition of bringing through young stars, with the likes of Anthony Gordon being a recent success story.

Ideally, the new candidate will come from a Category One academy or a top-flight club with experience in modern, data-driven football environments.
